Domain Name Hosting ???

I bought a domain name from Godaddy.com. They are telling me I have to renew my domain name every year for $9.99. If I host the domain name somewhere else will I have to keep paying? I don%26#039;t understand if I paying for the domain name or the hosting service? I have a person who will host my site for free, if I do that will I have to keep paying Godaddy.com?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Domain name registration and web hosting are two separate services required for a web site. The domain registration tells your URL where to go, and the hosting houses all the files that end up showing up when someone goes to your site.

I%26#039;ve found it easiest to do both through the same site like dotster.com. If you can find better deals other places though go for it!

Yes, you still have to pay GoDaddy. Domain registration is a cost separate from hosting even if you get the registration AND hosting at the same company, as in 1and1.com.

Other Replys:Yes no matter where you host the domain you will still need to pay $9.99 a year, and it%26#039;sthe domain your paying for. Not hosting.

Godaddy is still your domain registrar.

Other Replys:You may need to move the domain name to another registrar. For a normal user registrars can charge $200.00 per year. Godaddy are giving you their agency charge. I would stay put.
