Which do you think is the most relevant language in the market now?

Hi all! I had a real bad accident more than a year ago that had left me alternately comatose and physically wrecked. I%26#039;m talking 14 fractures here :). Still, I%26#039;ve come ahead quite far now.

I used to work in computers and want to get back in it. I was into data warehousing but that was a contingency move rather than by choice given the market then. I want to get back to programming and since I%26#039;m clueless want to know which are the dominant languges right now and primarilly in which domains?

I hear about a host of stuff like PHP and Python - where do they stand vis-avis Java? And is C++ in vouge still and in which domains? I%26#039;m talking about the US and European market here specifically. Thanks %26#039;all

Sorry to hear about your accident. I don%26#039;t have much experience programming, but it seems the languages that most jobs require are Microsoft%26#039;s .NET and Java. If you already know Java, .NET%26#039;s C# and J# should be pretty easy to pick up. You can also get free versions of .NET Visual Studio Express Edition from Microsoft%26#039;s website to get started. It would also be helpful to learn SQL and learn how to use some of the databases. Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server are probably the most popular.

PHP is really easy to learn but there aren%26#039;t many PHP jobs available. I personally use PHP the most but it just depends on what kind of job you want to work in. C++ is still popular but is used mostly for desktop applications. Hope this helps.
