I do not know if I%26#039;m the only one to have experienced this but yahoo seems not to be getting the proper IP adress when looking up the MX entry of a domain.

I have changed the hosting of my website 6 months ago and when I send email from my mail.yahoo.ca the email email goes through my old hosting provider.

Here is a partial header of the email sent through the wrong MX entry.

After you register your domain name you give the registrar the IP address of where the website will be hosted. for exaomle if you are going to host the site at your home you would have to have a %26quot;Static%26quot; IP address that never changes and you give that as your DNS address, so whenever anyone types your domain name into a browser or tries to send you mail it translates that name into your IP address

Also, if you want to know why you have to pay for a domain if nobody even knows about it, its because the registry needs to register the domain for it to work. It costs them money to get a registry licence, thats why you pay. If your domain isn%26#039;t registered, then anybody could say %26quot;MINE%26quot; and take it from you.

Shop around for your domain name and for hosting services. There is lots of competition.

You should be able to get a domain name for $10 and hosting services for less then $10 a month.

GPO + Software install: Doesn't work. Need help for my network technologies class?

No one in class can get the software install to automatically load on the client pc. I%26#039;ll try to sum it up the best I can. Have a class that we are working with Windows Server 2003. Have a Domain setup on our host pc. Have a second pc that is a client and can logon the domain. It can access the public folder that we setup. (We also put the test program Windows Defender MSI in there). We installed GPMC and are using Group Policy Manager (we also tried a similiar method in AD Users and Comps). So, we name our policy Push1 and we mapped it as \\server\folder\file.msi as per Microsoft%26#039;s instructions (not browse). We double checked the members of/rights area and the clientxp (our test login name) has that. Both under the computer management and user management we tried setting up these GPO Software installs. Weird thing is that if we restart the server, it auto installs on there. I double checked and it shows it as comp/user management for our domain not the local pc Any ideas?Can add info

Your best bet to locate the trouble causing your GPO not to be applied properly is the RSoP tool, or Resultant State of Policy, which will clearly show which policies are active, and where they are applied. You access this tool via the Help and Support pages, (easiest access for me! lol) Just open Help and Support and type RSoP into the search box and click Search,and then open the tool from the right side of the Help and Support window. Once you locate the tool, check the How to Open area so you can easily type in the tools name in the Run box, or any other cmd prompt window where you can open and run programs for future access.

Unless and until you check out your RSoP there isn%26#039;t anything more I can say here. This is the best method of discovering what policy is in place, if it is in conflict with another policy, or if a permission is getting in the way via inheritence, etc. This tool is the main method for troubleshooting Group Policy.

Sounds like your domain has gotten flagged for spam. Either that or the subject lines you are using are flagged for spam. I think hosting something on your computer especially on the cable or dsl bandwidth is not too good. You might get a clog and traffic generated in your pc. Thus the following things might appear

2. Traffic generation. Thus you might not be able to browse or people might not be able to access your site or you might get heavy bills.

Somebody will be making use of your computer. But if you still want to use your computer as web server, the simplest thing is putting IIS on your PC. I think IIS is built only server edition of windows. You can also try IIS in XP. That might have less features and might have some restrictions. The other one would be Apache in Windows which is also quite simple to use and Install.

My advice would be trying to choose some hosting provider who can help you to run a dedicated server or shared hosting. It doesn%26#039;t forward on my machine either. Log in to go daddy, go to domains, and check the settings.

Sometimes it takes a few days for the settings to work properly. Or maybe you went over your limit for forwarding domains. It all depends on your package, your settings, where you%26#039;re forwarding too, well a lot of things really.

Go Daddy%26#039;s got great support anyway, I%26#039;d ask them.

What performance issues can I expect when accessing a remote database vs a local database? All the files are local and just the database will be hosted on another server/domain.

Performance will depend largely on how remote the database server is from the web server and on what type of connection they have.

I%26#039;m curious as to why you would distribute the application in the way you described. Why would you want thousands of web servers connecting to the same db? In that case you certainly will have no control over the type and speed of connection between the web servers and the db server.

Instead, why not give each of those users space on a shared web server that%26#039;s tightly clustered with the db server? Or create the application so that they can each run a personalized or branded version in the same web server space.

The reason for considering this more conventional architecture is that when the db server is clustered with the web server(s), they%26#039;re typically on the same rack with a Gigabit (or better) connection, so you have optimum performance.

Look at what other providers can supply. Are you going to hve guaranteed server up time? What about back-ups of the data should a server go down or the data is lost? If you are offering a special service for weddings you have to make sure it is perfect - this is a special day for people and if you mess it up you will not get much business. Get it right and you will get lots. Price in itself isn%26#039;t normally an issue, it%26#039;s value for money. If you provide excellent quality and services, you can charge more.

Save yourself the money and skip the dotcom nonsense until you have something to put up, by using a free server such as Yahoo%26#039;s Geocities to get started, you%26#039;ll save yourself at the very least several hundred dollars.

Just go to www.opensourcecms.com and test a version of free cms that would suit you best.

The advantages of cms would be that you don%26#039;t need to be a web developer in order to have a good website able to allow people to register, to post comment or reviews on you site. Everything is very easy.

However I wouldn%26#039;t recommend goddady hosting for any of the cms as their server run quite slow these websites (I know as I have a website on their server, and just wait to go to another provider as soon as my account expires).

You should look for MySQL, PHP support, Apache for your hosting, I would recommend a Linux hosting.

Other Replys:When it comes to webspace design, you either need to hire someone to do it (not cheap) or create it yourself using some sort of html software (or notepad but i wouldn%26#039;t suggest that). If you do it yourself, you are really just going to have to play around and find what looks good to you.

i don%26#039;t know about hosting, i use 1and1.com, very good deal and has scripting support. I think you can pay with paypal at 1and1 too, maybe that helps your credit card situation.

If you don%26#039;t already have ecommerce software there are some free ones such as oscommerce that you set up yourself (very easy and have good helps). oscommerce also comes with a template that will start your site out looking nice but i suggest customizing it so your site doesn%26#039;t look stock.

But if this was a mistake you can cancel the service and the linux means the website is hosted on a Linux Server. And when you type in the website name your computer asks for the .html file or the webpage your on right now is on a yahoo server :) Plus if you have server software or xp pro you should be able to host it ON YOUR computer.

It means you have purchased a domain name with web space which is stored on a Linux server (linux is an operating system in the same way that Windows or Mac OS X are operating systems) and you have an email address or addresses that you can use along with that web space.

A domain name is the www.ThisIsMyDomainName.com. Linux is the operating system running on the web server. An email service is a piece of software that allows you to send %26amp; receive mail (sorry if that is stating the obvious!).

The reason the ISP wants to highlight the fact that it%26#039;s a Linux server, as opposed to a Microsoft Windows based server, is that it places certain restrictions on you from a web development point of view. For example, you won%26#039;t be able to run a website developed in ASP.Net, because this is a Microsoft technology. Also, you are unlikely to get the easy database adaptors to connect to SQL Server - if this sort of thing is important for you. If you%26#039;re just after web space to run a simple website, using open-source technologies (like PHP for example), Linux is a great choice. It%26#039;s very stable, and usually a lot cheaper than a Windows environment. Hope this clears it up a bit.

As far as %26quot;putting%26quot; the information on your site, that is done through an FTP. The FTP allows you take files from your computer and place them on the server that you purchased space on. After you login to godaddy, click on my account and then find the FTP page. Two screens appear. The left is your computer, the right is the godaddy server. Browse through your computer on the left side and click any files you used to create the web pages over to the server. That%26#039;s it. Remember, your homepage should be called index.html (or whatever extension you%26#039;re using) so that browsers know it%26#039;s the homepage when they%26#039;re crawling the server with your files.

As for css, I can%26#039;t really answer that because it%26#039;s unclear to me. I would need more details or to look at the page. Is it online anywhere? You should download Mozilla Firefox, seriously, so you can test your site in multiple browsers. Some pages will look completely different in different browsers.

Note: My blog is hosted on my own domain using wordpress software.

How Do I Get Stats On My Blog?

There are a number of ways, your web hosting provider should provide some sort of statistics, nearly all of them do, just have a look through their documentation. The alternative is to see if they provide raw access logs - if you can download them then you can run your own web log analysis software on the locally, try:

Designing, hosting and registering are all good things, but as an artist desireing to market your product, this falls way short of your total needs.

You mention nothing about the sites capability to handle queries, sales, credit card transactions and record keeping. These last functions are easily automated by a good site, but without the capability, YOU are left to handle the mundane business details, which WILL take up a LOT of time, even if you only enjoy a modest sucess.

Good price is not simply a matter of cheap. You have to assess the VALUE of what the hosting site offers. Like one person has already suggested, look around for other artist sites, such as Yessy, and Slantville. And do research on others before you commit to anything.

I don%26#039;t think there%26#039;s a such thing. And if there is, it would have horrible support. (Such as going down constantly). But, you could get a freewebs and use a .tk address so it would be like:

And use HTML to delete the ads placed on there by Freewebs, and the same for .Tk

I am an idiot when it comes to websites. I currently have a site that my friend hosts. However, I want to buy my own domain name now so my site will be more professional. All I need is the name since the site is already being hosted. I found the name I want and I am ready to purchase it. Since my friend is hosting my site, all I need is the domain name, right? Okay. I tried finding articles on the internet, but all I found was stuff on Apache, MySQL, and Mail Servers.

Well, once it is removed, you cannot really get the contents back. The only thing you can try is, when you google the site, google also stores the cached version of the site. Maybe you can try to view the cached pages and see if you can still see the contents.

A US court has tried to shut down a controversial website that allows whistle-blowers to post corporate and government documents anonymously, but the court has no jurisdiction to do so.

The site, known as Wikileaks.org, has been taken offline in the US due to a court order from the District Court in San Francisco. However, the site remains online in other countries, including Belgium and Germany.

The order came after a Swiss bank, Julius Baer, earlier this month filed a complaint against the site and San Mateo, California-based Dynadot, Wikileaks%26#039; domain-name registry, for posting several hundred of the bank%26#039;s documents.

Some of those documents allegedly reveal that Julius Baer was involved in offshore money laundering and tax evasion in the Cayman Islands for customers in several countries, including the US.

I have a website on windows hosting provided by godaddy. Near to 4.9 GB web space is yet left unused on my account. Now I wish to purchase another domain and use it with the same hosting plan.

Problem - I am using their economy hosting plan, and they have told me I cannot run two websites with entirely different content on the economy plan. I can do so when I upgrade to their deluxe and premium plans which are really expensive and not much useful for me.

Their upgraded plans have a functionality that I can point the domain to a sub folder and store my new website their. Economy plan allows me only to point a domain to the root folder and not to any specific folder.

Is there a way I can run two websites on this economy plan without any problems w.r.t search engines and visitors?

You do not have to buy your domain registration from GoDaddy to use the extra space.

Some domain registration resellers and registrars allow you to redirect your new domain to any folder in an existing domain, wherever it is hosted.

One service that I use that does this is http://www.directnic.com. They are not the cheapest around, but they are very, very flexible. Read what you can do for free with the domain names you buy through them.

However, by doing it this way, by pointing to a folder, you still will have only one control panel for your webhosting space.

Another solution is to find an inexpensive %26quot;reseller%26quot; account. With that you get a space for your domain and can also create a large number of other domains with their own control panels allowing you complete flexibility for each domain. Search on EBay for companies offering this. One I found on EBay that I now use costs $10 per month ... http://www.freshhost.net. It allows unlimited domains and bandwidth and a lot of disk storage. (This is much better than the services that say they %26quot;let you host 4 domains%26quot; on your account because you are still stuck with one control panel.) You can also sell webhosting to others from this acccount.

Now, I have made one page I call it landing page, with a header, little writing and some image pastes up. Then I have bought a domain. Then I have to buy a hosting, right?

Now I%26#039;m stuck. It%26#039;s not easy to put the domain through.

First I follow the cpannel, then what, where the FTP file becomes to be used? It is all mixed up, maybe it is the wrong way round, FTP first then cpannel?

If you have bought a domain then next you need to buy webhosting.

Once you have done that, you need to point the domain name to your new webhost.

Your webhost will provide you with the ftp address and password for your new site.

Now to upload your landing page onto your webhost you will need FTP software. This is free and easy to use.

I recommend this one:

Run the FTP software, and input your website%26#039;s ftp address and password.

Once there, go to your %26#039;public_html%26#039; folder and click on it to open.

This is where you need to upload your landing page - into the %26#039;public_html%26#039; folder at your webhost.

You will need to call you landing page %26#039;index.html%26#039;.

Just click on it and drag it across from your desktop or wherever it is on your computer.

To get your website to show up under your domain name you first need to go and get filezilla. You should be able to search it an get a free download, might wanna try www.download.com an see if they have it, download is free and all programs guaranteed to not have spyware or malware. Then you need to open up filezilla. Then you need to go back to the email freehostia first sent you welcoming you and look for FTP information. Then you need to type that information into filezilla. With Filezilla open you need to click file and then site manager. Once in site manager put the ftp host in host . then for login put it in user type and for password type the password.Click the logon type as normal and click connect. Once you connect you will see 2 folders click on the folder with the name of your website. Once clicked find one of the files your useing for your site and drag it into filezilla (under the folder you just opened) and there you go. If you need more help with filezilla go here http://www.latech.edu/tech/rural/website... As of the customize the text you have to open the unzipped folder and look for index, then open the index in whatever program you use to edit your site. It might also come with a style.css file, that is another way to edit your site. If you need any help with editing or just knowing have any questions with html or css i recommend checking out http://w3schools.com/.They tell you almost everyone on html and on css, and might help you to understand how the template you have works.
