u can buy a domain from one of the ICANN licenesed sites and then u can sell that domain to someone else.. and hosting just means some business out there is ready to keep the whole website on their servers and maintain it 24/7 with all kinds of Operating Systems, space limits (in MBs or GBs) and technology(PHP, ASP etc.) features.. for a small fee ( monthly or annually).
